The Chico State women’s basketball team won its second game in a row beating Simpson University 78-62, Jan. 23 in Acker Gym. It was the first time the two non-conference teams have ever faced each other, and the Wildcats left their mark all over this game.

The win boosts Chico State’s record to 8-9 on the season, with a 3-8 conference record. Even with a sub par record, the Wildcats are in a four-way tie for ninth place and half a game out of the eighth and final spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament.

The night belonged to senior guard Brooke Bowen as she exploded for a season high of 17 points on 6-11 shooting including 3-4 from behind the 3-point line.

The Wildcats led most of the game and used a 13-3 run to blossom the lead to 15 points, and led 45-30 at halftime. Even with a big lead, Chico State didn’t take their foot off the pedal. They came out in the second half on fire and extended their lead to 61-36 midway through the third, putting the game out of reach. The reserves for the Wildcats got to play the majority of the fourth quarter and Chico cruised to a 78-62 finish.
