Just in time for Valentines Day, the movie rental kiosk Redbox has recently released a list of the top ten romantic cities in America based on rentals of romance movies in 2015, with Chico ranking number six.

Chico State students usually have an initial look of confusion when told Chico was ranked the sixth romantic city in the United States. Beverly Casillas, a first year psychology major, was surprised when she heard the top ten cities on the list, with Chico being the only California city.

“That’s weird and random,” said Casillas. “You’d think New York would be on there.”

According to other students, possible reasons why Chico could be considered a romantic city could from what the countryside has to offer. “There’s lavender fields and orchards for apple picking,” Casillas continued.

Bidwell Park is also thought to be another reason for Chico’s ranking.

“I guess hiking and going on a picnic in Bidwell would be romantic,” elaborated Ashley Brown, a first year agriculture major. “It’d be a good place to propose for college sweethearts.”

Whatever the reason, Redbox has put Chico on the map as a new city of love.
