Wildcat baseball team crushes Holy Names University

Chico State baseball team defeated the Holy Names University Hawks with a score of 18-0 for its second away win in Oakland, California, on Saturday, Feb. 20.

This win advances the Wildcats to an overall record of 8-2 and an away record of 2-0 in pre-conference matches.

Chico State started strong at the beginning of the game with three runs in the first two innings. With two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth, the ‘Cats were off to a hot start at 6-0.

Junior pitcher Steven Baker held the Hawks scoreless for the six consecutive innings he threw.

The Wildcats took advantage of two errors in the seventh inning, scoring two runs. This momentum carried the Wildcats to score another six runs, boosting the score 14-0. Topping off the game with two runs in the eighth and two runs in the ninth, Chico State crushed the Hawks.

Ben Gamba, senior infielder, hit an impressive RBI of five. Gamba, along with Cameron Santos and Casey Bennett, scored three runs for the ‘Cats.

Chico State: 18 runs, 19 hits, 0 errors

Holy Names: 0 runs, 3 hits, 6 errors

The Wildcats play in their first conference series on Friday, Feb. 26 in Chico at Nettleton Stadium against Cal State Monterey Bay.
