The stakes are higher than usually in the 2016 primary election.

For the first time in 24 years, California is having an open Senate race.

Next to Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, 34 names of Senate hopefuls will be listed on the California primary.

Citizens registered in Butte County will be able to vote for the next California senator, as well as president, representative for the 1st district, State Assembly and multiple county initiatives.

The Orion created an infographic including the top candidates for senator and representative, as well as information on the three Butte County measures.

In order to vote in the primary on June 7, citizens must be registered to vote by May 23. Voters can cast their ballots at the BMU or other polling places across Butte County.
