For the first time since Sept. 9 the Chico State Volleyball team failed to win a set against its opponent.

The Sonoma State Seawolves walked onto the top-ranking Wildcats home court Oct. 29 with a second place ranking in their division and a five-game win streak. In three sets, the Seawolves closed the deficit between Chico State to just one game and extended their winning streak to six.

Chico State had not previously been swept in its conference this season but did lose 0-3 during its preseason game against Western Oregon University. Despite losing, the team retains its first place ranking in their conference and has an 11-3 record.

Although the Wildcats played only three sets, they committed 23 errors in the game. The largest gap in the sets was five points, while the matches remained close, Chico State fell because of the severe errors that closed out the sets.

The team has just four remaining games until beginning the CCAA Championship Tournament. If Chico State can defend its top ranking spot then it will have a better chance of being seeded higher.
