Chico State says pot still illegal on campus

Sorry to those with kushy dreams of a high campus after the passing of Proposition 64, but Chico State will not allow the smoking or possession of marijuana on university property.

In a campus-wide email sent to students and faculty, Drew Calandrella, Vice President for Student Affairs, explain that as the federal government still classifies marijuana as illegal, the substance will not be allowed on campus.

“Students should be aware that they may be subject to disciplinary action by the University for the use/possession/manufacture/distribution of marijuana products, regardless of their age, on University premises or at University-sponsored activities; storage of marijuana products or drug-related paraphernalia at on-campus residences or vehicles; and driving while under the influence of marijuana,” said Calandrella.

Chico State student Anna Marie Callahan agrees with the university’s stance on marijuana.

“You’re suppose to be intelligent about your catalyst and things you use,” said Callahan. “Just like with alcohol there needs to be rules and regulations unless it will get out of hand”
