Wildcats dominate home opener

The Chico State
women’s basketball team won its home opener in dominating fashion Tuesday against the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds by a final score of 79-47.

The first half was sloppy for both teams. The ’Cats had eight turnovers while the Sunbirds had 16. Chico State took advantage with 18 points off turnovers the first half.

With high turnovers for both teams, it allowed Chico State to lead by 19 at one point during the half and shoot 48% from the field. While Fresno Pacific only shot 35% and was 9-26 in the first half.

The second half was all Chico State. It began right where it left off as forward Analise Riezebos stole the ball in the first possession and went up for an easy lay up.

Chico State never looked back and took over the second half. They lead the Sunbirds by as many as 40 points during the game.

The ’Cats forced a total of 29 turnovers which led to 33 points. But Chico had a lot of turnovers as well, a total of 16.

All eight of the women for Chico State scored at least four points in the game. And four scored double-digit points, led by senior guard Jazmine Miller with 15 points, three assist, three steals and three rebounds.

Chico State remains unbeaten with a 2-0 overall record. The ’Cats will have 10 days to rest until they play Notre Dame De Namur University on the road Nov. 22.
