Student found dead near railroad tracks

James Lowder, a sophomore pre-business administration major, died over the weekend. He was 19.


James Lowder, sophomore pre-business administration major, died last Friday. He was 19.

Lowder was found deceased by the railroad tracks near West 7th Street at about 4 a.m. on Nov. 15 after authorities were notified by an Amtrak engineer, according to a university email. The Butte County Sheriff’s office is currently investigating his cause of death.

Lowder, born Dec. 29, 1993, came to Chico from the Folsom area, according to the email. He first enrolled at the Chico State in fall 2012.

The University flag will be lowered today in his memory.

Counseling services for students are available at the Counseling and Wellness Center in the Student Services Building Room 430 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center can be reached at 530-898-6345.
