With softball season approaching, the Chico State women’s team is eager and ready to bring home a championship.

Coming off a hot season last year, the team feels the pressure to not only come back just as hot, but as well as coming back to Chico with a championship. Junior Claire Wayne is a returning catcher and third basemen for the team who emphasized the importance of a breakout season.

“In the last two years specifically, we have made it to the finals of CCAA and regionals and lost,” Wayne said. “So with that, we are coming in with the mindset of this is our year to win it.”

The team is coming back stronger than ever after some unfortunate loses last season. Wayne mentions the drive and leadership this team needs to come back for a breakout season.

“We have some good fight in this group of girls and I think it’s going to carry through to some good things this season,” Wayne said.

The season kicks off at noon on Feb. 9 when the Wildcats travel south to take on Cal State San Bernardino.
