Chico Democrats hosted a party to watch the president’s yearly address to the nation Tuesday.

The party was held at the house of retired Chico State faculty Michele Shover on the 200 block of East 12th Street. Two viewing rooms were set up to accommodate the guests.

As Trump addressed the nation, Chico Democrats and guests enjoyed pizza and other refreshments, a welcome relief from what many said to be nonsense from the president.

“I don’t know what that was,” City Councilor Randall Stone said after the speech. “It was just a series of pledges with no plans on how to follow through.”

Jeremy Markley, former president of Chico State Democrats, was also at the party. ”It’s exactly what we’ve all come to expect,” he said.”Trump takes credit for everything good but nothing bad.”

“People who like him cheer, people who don’t boo, and those who actually did anything aren’t there,” Markley added.

“I think most Americans will forget it in a few days,” said Bob Mulholland, who helped facilitate the party. “He showed very little emotion.”
