A man was stopped and cited by University Police for riding his bicycle at Chico State Tuesday at about 12:10 p.m.

According to Sergeant Lance Conlan, the man had been found to be riding his bicycle in the busy area by Trinity Commons, as many students were heading to or exiting classrooms.

Conlan stated that the man is not a student and that this was his second such citation. “He had a documented previous warning from us for riding in the campus,” he said.

Sergeant Jason Plainer added that this was the third stop they had made, due to others riding their bicycles, that they had written in the previous 10 minutes.

“Most subjects get warnings…this was the first stop to get a citation,” he said. “We’re out here in response to many complaints from faculty and staff.”

“It’s a hot-button issue with some students… but the rule is pretty black and white here on campus,” Plainer said.

The officers both encouraged students to follow the rule and walk on campus to avoid accidents and injuries.
