Suicide threat causes evacuation

On Nov. 16 around 6 p.m., Chico Police Department officers responded to a call about a man with a gun that was threatening suicde on 1749 East Eaton Road.

Upon arrival, the officers evacuated the uninvolved persons from the area. Nearby residents were evacuated and/or shelter in place.

After communication with the victim, he departed from the area and was detained for a mental health evaluation. Since the 36 year-old victim was not charged for a crime, his identity was withheld.

Two firearms were seized by CPD officers for safekeeping. The victim was released into the care of Butte County Mental Health. There were no injuries resulting from the incident.
