Any volleyball match that takes less than 90 minutes is usually a sign of a mismatch. That was the case Tuesday night in Turlock, as the Chico State women’s volleyball team quickly dispatched the CSU Stanislaus Warriors 25-22, 25-14, and 25-20.

The sweep moves the bumps the Wildcats to the positive side of .500 to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Warriors drop to 1-10 and 1-6 in the CCAA.

The ‘Cats came out firing on all cylinders, determined to snap their two-match slide from the past weekend. Paced by setter Torey Thompson’s 28 assists, a close initial set ended with Chico State up by three, and that’s as close as Stanislaus would get.

The second set was more of the same, with the ‘Cats getting kills consistently thanks to their .286 hitting percentage. The Warriors only were able to convert on .182 percent of their attacks. Shannon Boling had a match-high 14 kills. Ellie Larronde and Lindsay Quigley had eight and six kills each while hitting at scintillating .636 and .545 rates, respectively. Emily Duran had a match-high 15 digs to go with four assists.

Head Coach Cody Hein utilized his bench throughout the match, especially the final set, as only two Wildcats failed to see action.. The Warriors had five more attacking errors and two more service errors than the Wildcats.

The ‘Cats next matches are on Friday and Saturday at home vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.
