After losing their last conference road game last weekend, the Chico State men’s soccer team bounced back on Friday night by shutting out San Francisco State with a final score of 2-0.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start, scoring two quick goals in the first half. The first goal came from junior forward Matt Hurlow, who found the back of the net at 2:54. The goal was his fifth of the season.

Hurlow followed up with an assist to freshman midfielder Carter Johnson, who scored the Wildcats’ second goal of the game.

With the win, Chico State improves to 2-6-1 in the conference, with a 7-6-2 overall record.

The Wildcats have had a tumultuous season thus far, highlighted by a 4-game losing streak to begin conference play. With the win on Friday night, Chico State was able to keep its playoff hopes alive.

“It feels good, I mean to get some points on the board,” Hurlow said. “It gives us a chance, we’re still in it to make the CCAA’s hopefully, just have to keep working to get the last two wins.”

The Wildcats will get the chance to extend their winning streak on Sunday, when they play Cal State Monterey Bay.

Sunday’s game also marks senior day for the Wildcats. Seniors Michael Janjigian, Akwafei Ajeakwa, Justin Saul, Joachim Gasmi and Malcolm Ekeruche, will be honored before the start of the game.
