Chico Performances welcomes the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis at 7:30 p.m. March 12 in Laxson Auditorium. The orchestra was founded in 1988 and currently consists of 15 of the most talented jazz ensemble players and soloists of our day. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra serves as the resident orchestra for the Jazz at Lincoln Center venue, part of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra has toured across Europe, Russia, China, Japan and Australasia, in addition to multiple tours across the United States. The orchestra is currently led by trumpet player Wynton Marsalis.Marsalis is a critically acclaimed jazz and classical musician who has won nine Grammy awards. His album “Blood on the Fields” also won the Pulitzer Prize for Music.The concert will encompass many of the great jazz standards as well as new material composed specifically for the orchestra.
