Men’s rugby team drubs University of Nevada, Reno

The Chico State men’s rugby team dominated University of Nevada, Reno 73-0.

Chico State was able to score early and often in Saturday’s contest amassing a 40-0 lead within the first half of play.

The Wildcats scored six tries and five conversions, forcing University of Nevada, Reno to focus solely on defense throughout the first half.

“We played our best game this season,” senior wing and team captain Tyler Poland said. “There was no panic playing today.”

As the second half got started Chico State kept the offensive attack going, never letting University of Nevada, Reno put up any points.

The ‘Cats scored five tries and four conversions in the second half, adding another 33 points to the 40 point lead.

“The more we play the more we are coming together as a team,” senior eight man Mike Morello said.

Chico State’s win today puts them at 3-0 in conference and 3-1 for the season.

“This performance definitely puts a target on our backs,” Poland said.

The men have next week off but look to prep for the following week against as the team will play on the road against San Jose State.
