If you’ve been looking for a furry addition to your life, or just love looking at adorable animals, then come to the Chico Animal Shelter Friday from noon to 5 p.m.

After a successful year of housing and caring for the stray animals of Chico, the City of Chico Animal Services is celebrating by giving an inside look at their shelter located at 2579 Fair St.

Animal Services Manager Tracy Mohr said the changes to the shelter have been an ongoing project.

“We want to let people know that the building is operational, and that we have dogs in there that aren’t living outside anymore,” Mohr said.

Since the animal shelter was transitioned from the Butte Humane Society to the city of Chico, there have been many positive changes that the shelter wants to showcase.

“We have a nice facility now, its more pleasant for the public to come into,” Mohr said.

The open house will include a tour of the new kennel facility, and information on new cat intake policies, which begin Friday.

The animals of the shelter are those who have been abandoned by owners, picked up by Chico Animal Control, or just stray and unwanted animals.

There are hundred of both dogs and cats available for adoption directly through the shelter. The shelter’s website has a list of adoptable animals, complete with pictures.

“We’re making progress,” Mohr said. “We just want people to know that we’re moving forward.”
