<p class=”MsoNormal”>Ciao ragazzi.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>This past week in Viterbo has been the busiest one yet. My cuisine class went to a culinary school in a nearby town called Tuscania to cook for the first time, and my Etruscan art history class took a trip to Tarquinia to see a museum. Between the field trips, keeping up with regular classes and organizing my upcoming travel plans I feel like I haven’t had a free moment to relax. I love being so busy though; everything I am doing is so worth it.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>So first off, I want to tell you about the food class.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>We took a bus to the Boscolo Etoile Academy (a culinary school) in Tuscania. The town and the school are both beautiful. The theme of the day was desserts. We were introduced to the head pastry chef of the academy and he led our class for the day. We were all allowed to participate in different steps of the cooking process.

<p class=”MsoNormal”>We made a chocolate pudding cake which was really rich but good. We also made Italian short bread and chocolate chip meringues that were amazing.

<p class=”MsoNormal”>My absolute favorite was the triple chocolate pudding. We layered dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate custards and topped it with some of the meringues. It looked beautiful and tasted even better. It took a long time because it is a complicated process to get the consistency and layers just right, but it came out fantastic. This is one that I’ll definitely be attempting to make at home when I get back.

<p class=”MsoNormal”>Next time we go to cook, we’ll be making focaccia bread and pizza so I am really looking forward to that.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>The next field trip I went on was to Tarquinia, which is historically significant for the Etruscan culture. We toured a museum dedicated to Etruscan historical artifacts, and then visited several tombs.

<p class=”MsoNormal”>I enjoyed Tarquinia because the city I am living in, Viterbo, is an Etruscan city. It was interesting to learn about the Etruscan culture and relate what I learned to my own surroundings.

<p class=”MsoNormal”>One more thing.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>I wanted to share that I am very excited to be heading to Paris tomorrow. I will be traveling there on my own, which frankly, is terrifying to me but I will be meeting some family friends there and staying with them. Once I get there, it shouldn’t be too stressful.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>After a few days in Paris, I’m meeting a friend from the USAC program in Dublin. We’ll explore Ireland for a couple of days. Then I’ll be continuing on alone to London to stay with friends there for a few nights before heading back to Viterbo.
<p class=”MsoNormal”>Planning this trip has been a lot of work. I am definitely nervous about the travelling, but I am sure it will be a good learning experience. I’ll be writing to you next week from either Dublin or London, so be sure to check in to hear about the first part of my adventure.
