There will be a resilient law enforcement presence for Labor Day weekend in and around Chico, including the Sacramento River, according to an email sent to students by Chico State public affairs.

The increased police presence is due to the greater demand on police,

“The City of Chico anticipates a significant spike in calls for service, violence, alcohol related issues and crowd control problems throughout the weekend prior to Labor Day, beginning on Friday evening,” according to a press release from the Chico Police Department.

The operational period begins Friday and ends Monday, according to the press release. Chico police made approximately 93 arrests in that time frame last year.

Chico police have also instituted a “One and Done” policy for parties, the press release stated. One fight, one bottle or object thrown at officers or one act of violence at a party and the festivity will be immediately shut down. The department will have a zero-tolerance stance in regards to violence and other criminal activity.

Patrols of Chico police and AVOID Anti-DUI Program personnel will be working to identify those driving under the influence on Friday, according to the press release. DUI checkpoints Saturday and Sunday will be conducted by the California Highway Patrol’s Rapid Apprehension of Impaired Drivers team.

A glass ban will take effect from 4 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Monday. The glass free zone includes the residential area south of Chico State’s campus and the downtown Chico business district, according to the Chico police press release.

Classes for Chico State students will resume Tuesday.
