Engineering graduate wins award

Chico State graduate Shahna Thomas recently received a $1,000 award for her essay on highway engineering for a national competition. Thomas became one of seven national finalists for an essay she wrote about highway roundabouts. She is working on her master’s degree in civil engineering at Sacramento State and is working as a construction engineer on the Highway 70/149/99 project between Chico and Oroville.

Pavement center established

The California Department of Transportation has selected Chico State for its California center for pavement preservation. The center has received $1.8 million in Caltrans funding and will work closely with the Pavement Preservation Task Group.

The center will research ways to maintain and repair pavement and find ways to prevent corrosion.

Last day for Watershed submissions

Today is the last day to submit literary work and art to Watershed magazine. Watershed is Chico State’s biannual publication of prose, poetry, drawings and photography. The best submissions will be selected to be Published in the fall edition of the magazine. All submissions should be delivered to Taylor Hall Room 209. Rape Aggression Defense workshop

Scour and Devour this week

The Scour and Devour campus and community cleanup will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday outside Kendall Hall. Volunteers will pick up trash, paint fences, plant flowers and partake in other beautification projects around Chico. Afterward, volunteers will be treated to a tri-tip barbecue.
