Jesse Soto scored a season-high 20 points off the bench in an 86-82 loss to the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors in the conference opener last week.

After the team came into the second half with a 50-33 deficit, Soto scored eight points in a 23-9 rally that helped trim the Warriors’ lead to three.

In Saturday’s loss to the UC San Diego Tritons, Soto finished the game with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Soto, a junior college transfer from the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, made 40 percent of his 3-pointers last season. He spent one season at Cal State Bakersfield and led that team to the NCAA Championship.

Soto was born in Bakersfield, enjoys wakeboarding and wake surfing, and claims he used to ride bulls.
