Use of Wildcat Store second floor still to be determinedPedro Quintana

Associated Students is still discussing what to do with the soon-to-be vacated second floor of the Wildcat Store, with the possibility of converting it to a conference room and a student cafe.

The second floor will no longer be a part of the Wildcat Store since a loss of $3.5 million in textbook sales over the last three years, as reported by The Orion.

A.S. representatives have been discussing how to better use the space with architect company Williams and Paddon, said Gabe Adley, A.S. vice president of facilities and services.

“We’re seeing how much the cost will be and if it is feasible,” he said.

However, none of the ideas are set in stone, A.S. President Jaypinderpal Virdee said.

A.S. offices to be consolidated in Bell Memorial Union

A.S. is moving the offices of several student organizations to house them all in the Bell Memorial Union.

The student life and leadership office will leave its current location in the Student Services Center, Adley said. The A.S. human resources office will move from BMU Room 202 to BMU Room 213.

The A.S. human resources office needs more space, because the cubicles currently being used present confidentiality issues, Virdee, said. The Wildcat Institute for Leadership Development, a new A.S. program, will get its own office. It has been sharing space in the BMU with A.S. government affairs.

“We want it to expand and open it up to blossom,” Virdee said.

The carpet in the BMU has not been replaced since the building opened in 2001, Adley said. Some rooms have had new carpet recently installed, and the rest should be replaced during winter break.
