The women’s soccer team was shutout 1-0 against conference leader San Francisco State Sunday.

The only goal came in the 27th minute when Gators’ Robin Bowman tapped an assisted ball into the net after Wildcats goalie Natalie Bensky mishandled it.

The game was a defensive struggle as both teams tried to get any offensive attacks. Chico State out shot its opponents 6-4, but only had two shots on the goal compared to the Gators’ four.

The Wildcats let a few opportunities slip by in the waning minutes of the game that led to their sixth scoreless game of the season. Inside the last 11 minutes, the ‘Cats had two corner kicks that were unsuccessful, as well as a missed shot that went a few feet right of the goal.

Carly Atkins and Stephanie Insler were the only Wildcats to have shots on the goal, and Ali Sward finished with two shot attempts in the loss. The ‘Cats out shot the Gators in the second period 4-1, but were unable to capitalize on any of them.

Chico State’s record fell to 7-8-2 overall and 3-6-2 in the conference. The Wildcats go on the road next weekend, looking to improve their conference record as they travel to Cal State Stanislaus and Humboldt State.
