Finding the right hair stylist in a new town can be a difficult and frustrating process. Never knowing if you will click with the person that wields a pair of sharp scissors can be enough to keep a person out of the salon altogether.

Thankfully, Bliss Salon offers friendly experienced service and prices that even a starving college student can afford. The relatively new salon, located at 1600 Mangrove Ave. Suite 140, is only 5 years old and offers numerous student discounts, said owner Kimberly Sajadi.

“We love to get new clients and find that Chico State students are very loyal to us,” she said.

Sajadi has been working as a hair stylist for 25 years, 17 of which she spent as a color specialist in San Francisco. Trained to also do flawless manicures and pedicures, Sajadi makes sure her co-workers are just as experienced and stylish as she is, she said.

Same-day appointments are available though scheduling can get tight, Sajadi said. But most walk-ins will be able to get a waxing or nail appointment.

Maggie MacDonald, a 24-year-old Chico resident, has worked at Bliss Salon for three years and has been a certified stylist for six years. Her peppy attitude and nose for style make her the perfect choice for any college student.

“I always make sure my clients are happy with what I do for them,” she said. “I never leave a client unsatisfied.”

With services including cuts, color, highlights and perms all under $100, Sajadi makes sure that students can give their pocketbooks a break while trying to look their best.

Bliss Salon offers student discount cards. The card give users a 20 percent discount Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and a 15 percent discount Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The salon also offers $9 facial waxings on Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m.

“This is where I go every Friday on my lunch break to get my eyebrows waxed,” said junior Rachael Coyne.

The stylish, friendly and enthusiastic women who work at the salon have made the beauty of others their sole responsibility. Whether people are looking for a new salon or trying a daring new look, Bliss Salon offers professional service with a glistening smile.

To make an appointment call 894-7477, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
