The Chico State baseball team lost its second game in a row to Cal State East Bay losing 8-7 Sunday afternoon.

The score does not indicate how the game was played. The Pioneers of East Bay got out to an 8-0 lead through six innings.

It was a rough afternoon for the Wildcat pitching staff. Starter Derek Sesma only lasted two innings, giving up three runs. The Pioneers would see six different ’Cats take the mound, combining eight runs on fifteen hits.

The Wildcats bats finally woke up in the seventh inning with a three-run triple from Jake Bailey. The ’Cats would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the seventh to trail 8-4.

The ’Cats showed life again in the bottom half of the ninth inning when Pioneers closer walked the bases loaded with one out. The Wildcats would score three runs on RBI singles from Dylan Garcia, Ronnie Galosic and Ruben Padilla.

However, a strike out from Tyler Madrid and a groundout to third by Ryan McClellan would end the rally for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats now have a record of 24-7 and are 17-6 in conference play.
