Chico State students gathered in the downtown plaza all-day Friday for the city’s biannual Great Debate.
Over 1700 Chico State students presented speeches, debates and group presentations centered around this year’s theme: diversity and discrimination, said Gina Tigri, the program assistant for the debate.
“The Great Debate is a way for us to encourage students to engage in the community,” Tigri said.
Mathew Floyd, a freshman psychology major, and Michel Valencia, a sophomore environmental science major, spoke about the lack of diversity in the United States Congress in their presentation.
“The event informs people about issues that affect all of us,” Valencia said.
