The season ended for the Chico State softball team with a 24-26 overall record and a 17-19 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The team didn’t make the playoffs, but memories were made along the way.

The highlights on offense were sophomores Alli Cook, Amanda Cordeiro and Desiree’ Gonzalez. Cordeiro finished the season with a batting average of .307 with 43 hits and 15 RBIs. Gonzalez led the team with 11 home runs, which was good for ninth in the CCAA. With Gonzalez providing the power, Cook provided the speed with 27 stolen bases, second in the CCAA.

Cook was a highlight on the team and was named to the All-CCAA Second Team. However, one of her main goals this season was to steal the most bases.

“I am a little disappointed in myself,” Cook said. “From day one I wanted to have the most stolen bases, but I’ll get it next year.”

Gonzalez, who was a regular starter for the team, wants to improve her overall game.

“I hope to continue to provide power in the lineup, as well as being a solid piece in the infield,” Gonzalez said.

Kelli Keefe provided one of the most memorable moments of the season when she hit a walk-off single to beat Sonoma State.

“The whole season was memorable,” Keefe said. “We had a great group of girls.”

Keefe’s favorite moment was the last game of the season.

“Being able to play with Alex, Scotie and Kayla in their last game,” Keefe said. “They are irreplaceable as teammates, and I love them.”

Cook’s lasting impression of the season was Keefe’s walk-off.

“It showed that we had heart and that we can come from behind,” Cook said.

Gonzalez’s favorite memory was defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 5-2 and snapping its 19-game win streak.

Wildcats ace Alex Molina finished her final season with a 12-12 record and tied for sixth in the CCAA with 15 complete games.

Next season, the Wildcats will have a solid foundation to compete for a championship.

“I hope that next year’s team will be able to fight through adversity and be able to recognize and change the things that are in our control,” Cook said.
