Pack the House night in Acker Gym saw the Chico State women’s volleyball team beat the Cal State East Bay Pioneers in straight sets. The ‘Cat’s won 25-20, 26-24 and 25-21. Chico State improves to 4-3 on the season while East Bay drops to 4-4.

The Cat’s came roaring out of the gate in the first set, leading 17-7 at one point. The team from Hayward did make it a respectable finish with a late surge, but the Wildcat lead was too great.

A back and forth second set ended with the ‘Cats on top again, although narrowly. The Pioneers showed they were not going to roll over easily and gave the ‘Cats all they could handle as Chico won 26-24.

The third set was another tightly contested affair, with neither team getting ahead by more than a few points ahead at a time. With the game tied at 18, the ‘Cats went on a 7-3 run to cap the set and take the match for second consecutive. Lindsay Quigley slammed down her 16th kill to win the match for the ‘Cats.

Junior Shannon Boling led the team with a career high 18 kills on 44 attempts, while Setter Tory Thompson collected 43 assists on the night to go with eight digs. Senior libero Emily Duran picked up 18 digs and Shannon Cotton had a game-high four aces along with 12 digs.

The ‘Cats take on Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night at 7 pm in Acker Gym.
