Humans of Chico State: Halloween

What is your best Halloween memory?

“My freshman year coming into Chico State, I had a set of friends and we all dressed up as the Marvel characters. It was nice to just go out and have a good time and steer away from danger and all that stuff. And also being a freshmen, not getting too involved but also knowing your surroundings, paying attention but having a fun night.” – Marysa Zarco, junior kinesiology major

What is your most embarrassing Halloween costume?

“This is when I had no control over what I wore, so this is way back when. One year I was Pocahontas. I didn’t like it because I’m not on the girly side much, but my mom made me wear it so I had no choice.” – Zarco

What did you want to be?

“I wanted to be like Buzz Lightyear or something. The tomboy in me I guess.” – Zarco

What is your most embarrassing costume?

“I was really little and I had just learned what recycling was, what it meant to recycle things and I thought it was really important. For my costume, I literally covered myself with recycling. My friend and I both did it and we were just recycling. We literally had bottles and bubble wrap stuck on us. All night, people were like, ‘What are you?’ And I don’t think we even knew. We were just like, ‘We’re recycling!’ And they were like, ‘Oh, okay.'” – Joanna Bundros, nutrition graduate student, left

What is your favorite Halloween memory?

“Once when I was little, my mom and I went to this house and they had this bowl of chocolates there and my mom was like, ‘Let’s just take it all.’ And we just took all of them and I felt so bad, but she was like, ‘It’s okay, they’ll refill it later.’ It’s so funny thinking about it now, us running away with this giant basket of candy. These small moments mean so much to you later.” – Cynthia Torres, a freshman psychology student, right

Brendan Green, a senior mechatronic engineering and German major, left, and Austin Barden, a senior interior architecture major, agree that their favorite memory of Halloween was at Chico State. Photo credit: Annie Paige

What is your best Halloween memory?

“Halloween last year was the first one I actually got to celebrate because I’ve been on the Chico State Frisbee team and usually we’re gone at tournaments. So last year I partied wearing a ladybug outfit, it was real cute.” – Austin Barden, senior interior architecture major, right

“Mine was probably freshman year. I grew up here and I finally got to see what all the hype was about because I never came down here when I didn’t live downtown. And it was pretty crazy. Freshman year was definitely eye-opening to Chico State and the nightlife to say the least.” – Brendan Green, senior mechatronic engineering and German major, left

What is your most embarrassing costume?

“My mom used to make them and I went as Peter Pan and had some sweet tights when I was like 10. That was probably the most embarrassing.” – Green

“I don’t know what my most embarrassing costume was, but I’ve always been lazy when it comes to costumes. I was the Grim Reaper for probably six years in a row, just cause it was easy and I never wore pants underneath. I was always wearing whitey-tightys.” – Barden

Jessielynn Jimenez, a freshman liberal arts student, recounts a funny memory with her sister during Halloween. Photo credit: Annie Paige

What is your best Halloween memory?

“It was four years ago when my two sisters and I dressed up as the three blind mice and we went to this one house. People were sitting and I didn’t know they were real or anything and they jumped out. My sister hit them with her cane and I started crying. I mean, what else are you gonna do?” – Jessielynn Jimenez, freshman liberal arts student
