Trap music hits Chico

photo-courtesy-the-senator-theatre

RL Grime, Los Angeles trap producer famous for his “Satisfaction,” “Mercy” and “Love Sosa” remixes and work with Baauer (“Harlem Shake”) and What So Not, is coming to the Senator this Friday to a sold-out show.

The 23-year-old Grime, his name an homage to R.L. Stine of the Goosebumps series, will arrive to an eager college crowd.

The event has been a topic of excitement for several weeks now, and sold out as the opportunity for a loud, subwoofer-driven dance party hit the campus.

Students late to buying tickets have taken to the FADE app and Chico State Class Facebook groups to find sellers, with prices ranging from $60 to $100, and occasional trades for drugs.

“Anybody wanna trade some Molly for rl tickets?? I need two” was offered from an submitter on the popular campus application FADE. Another post possibly offered their soul: “Anyone have RL Grime tickets for sale? Will pay hell lol.”

Though hip hop and trap have an influential foot in Northern California venues, some Chico State students are less inclined towards the thunderous genre, categorizing it into the anti-EDM umbrella bracket of “button pressing,” such as CAm eron on FADE.

The Chico State concert scene also includes The Expendables at the Senator the 28th, and locally appraised artists like Logic and Iration coming up next month, and Iamsu! and Andre Nickatina after that.
