A man was hit by a car on 7th and Chestnut Saturday at around 8:00 p.m. and was pronounced dead, according to Chico Police.

The man was walking northbound across the street and the driver was coming eastbound when he hit the individual and a parked car, according to Sergeant Scott Ruppel.

A witness, Terry Asumen, said the driver was coming around the corner quickly and hit the man crossing the street.

“(He) flew up into the air and landed on the hood,” Asumen said. “The guy hit by the car landed in the gutter. I went over to check his vitals and it was pretty weak.”

Another witness, Krystina Riccio, was crossing the street the same time the accident occurred.

“We heard someone speeding pretty fast and we saw that the car had hit the other cars on the side of the road,” Riccio said.

The driver and the victim were both taken to Enloe Medical Center. The driver voluntarily went to receive blood tests, whether he was intoxicated or not is still unknown.
