The Chico State softball team split its doubleheader against the Sonoma State Seawolves on Saturday.

Game 1

Sonoma State struck first in the bottom of the second inning when left fielder Keeley Ray singled through the shortstop, to bring in a run and give the Seawolves the lead 1-0.

The Wildcats answered quickly in the top of the third, by scoring three runs. Junior catcher Brynn Lesovsky doubled, which brought in junior center fielder Alli Cook and senior second baseman Kelli Keefe.

The smash gave the ‘Cats a 2-1 lead over the Seawolves. The Wildcats would put another run for insurance when senior shortstop Emily McEnaney doubled to left field, driving in Lesovsky.

The Wildcats held onto the lead and beat the Seawolves 3-1 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Game 2

The Wildcats struck first, with a three run third inning.

The ‘Cats got on the board first when junior first baseman Desiree Gonzalez doubled, bringing in senior shortstop Emily McEnaney. It gave the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead and they put two more runs on the scoreboard, which gave them a 3-0 lead.

The Seawolves scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth, which brought the score to 3-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Seawolves rallied and scored two runs when left fielder Keeley Ray doubled down the left field line, which drove in two runs. It brought the score to 3-3.

The next batter, pitcher Mayleen Mazon ended things with a game winning RBI hit down the first baseline which gave the Seawolves the win, 4-3.

The ‘Cats host Humboldt State next Friday.
