After Friday night’s loss against Sonoma State, the Wildcats were able to find success defeating Humboldt State 3-2 on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Wildcats got the victory with set scores of: 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 15-12.

The key for the ‘Cats yet again was sophomore outside hitter Olivia Mediano, who ended the night matching her career high of 24 kills in one game.

Torey Thompson, junior setter, led the team in assists, tallying up 53 for the night.

Natalia Betancourt, first-year libero and defensive specialist, set her personal bests of four aces and 14 digs for the game. She begins to make a big impact for the ‘Cats.

In the first set, the Wildcats seemed to have momentum on their side. Mediano’s kill got them the win 25-21. The second set came, and Humboldt started with a 5-1 run. But the Wildcats managed to tie it up after the tough start. However, the Lumberjacks turned it around when they won 25-22 to tie the game.

In the third set, the Wildcats were able to make a comeback as they took it 25-22. The fourth set went to Humboldt State as the Lumberjacks tied the game with two winning sets apiece, 25-23.

The Wildcats won 15-12 in the fifth set, winning 3-2 with senior outside hitter Shannon Boling’s kill as the ‘Cats advanced to 4-2 in CCAA play and 12-4 overall in the 2015 season.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Wildcats will face Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m. in Hayward.
