The Pageant Theatre is the place to be to watch this year’s hidden Hollywood gems. Here are some of the movies that will be gracing the theater this week.
Starting Oct. 9: “Grandma”
Lily Tomlin stars as Elle, a woman going through a breakup with her girlfriend. The sudden appearance of Elle’s granddaughter, Sage, sends both women on a search for money that neither of them have. This day-long journey brings unexpected visits from old friends and old lovers that will dig up more than just money.
Starting Oct. 9: “Goodnight Mommy”
Two boys await their mother’s arrival during a hot summer in their country home. When their mom comes home covered in bandages from cosmetic surgery, the boys begin to doubt the woman is actually their mother. This terrifying story is being compared to “The Shining” and “Dead Ringers.”
Starting Oct. 10: “Pather Panchali”
The first film in the 1955 Apu Trilogy, considered a masterpiece of Indian cinema, is a coming-of-age story following a typical Bengali boy’s life as he and his sister witness their family’s struggle firsthand. “Pather Panchali” will be showing Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. with the rest of the trilogy to follow in the next couple weeks.
Starting Oct. 10: “The Exorcist”
For one night only, the Pageant will be screening a midnight showing of the horror classic about a young girl’s possession by the devil and the exorcism that follows. The film sparked controversy when it was first released in 1973 for its religious elements and gave audiences a reason not to eat split pea soup. “The Exorcist” is also one of the few horror movies to ever be nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Picture.” This is a must-see for any true horror fan.
