The Chico State cross-country teams both came away with wins at the San Francisco State Invitational. The men’s team dominated with a score of 23-82, and the women’s team secured their win with a score of 41-63.

Both teams defeated second-place finisher California Baptist.

Men’s- The team showed exactly why they are ranked No. 2 in the nation as they had five top-10 finishers. Junior Will Reyes won the race by 9.1 seconds with a time of 25:32.2. Sophomore Falco DiGallonardo finished third and junior Steven Martinez finished in fifth. Sophomore Caton Avilla and junior Aaron Mora completed the top-10 finishers at sixth and eighth place, respectively.

Women’s– Junior Sadie Gastelum led the way for the team recording her first collegiate victory and completing the course in 21:39.3. Junior teammate Haley Kroll finished just a minute behind. This was Kroll’s first CCAA meet in two years after injuries had put her running on hold. Junior McCall Habermehl and sophomore Alex Burkhart placed sixth and seventh, with senior Quetta Peinado placing 10th. Fellow senior Lora James finished off the scoring for the ‘Cats in 19th place.

The Wildcats compete in the CCAA Championships next on Oct. 25.
