The Chico State men’s basketball team won 68-55 against Simpson University in the Carl’s Jr. Mac Martin Invitational on Nov 28. The win improves the Wildcats record to 4-1. The game featured the first career double-double and career-best 13 rebounds for sophomore forward Isaiah Ellis.

First half: The first half began with both teams battling to gain the lead. Both teams started the game playing sluggish but eventually improved play. Simpson University held the lead only three times during the half with the largest lead being only one point. Chico State would eventually improve its play and take over the game toward the end of the half. Heading into halftime, Chico State led Simpson University by a score of 35-21. The Wildcats went 13-33 from the field and shot 39 percent while Simpson University went 10-26 and shot 38 percent. Despite the low shooting percentage, Chico State had more points off turnovers, 12-4, and more second-chance points, 11-0. The ‘Cats also led in bench points, 16-0, points in the paint, 22-16, and fast break points, 6-0.

Second half: The second half picked up where the first had left off with Chico State easily putting up points. Although it wouldn’t last, Simpson University would not catch up and for the majority of the half trailed by double digits. The Wildcats finished the game to win 68-55.
