Campus resource holds knowledge about alcohol all students need to hear

After waking up in the hospital for alcohol poisoning, McKenna Peterson decided to help students understand how to safely deal with alcohol.

Peterson leads Wildcat ROAR (Reach Out and Respond), which hosts two-hour training sessions for students to recognize and prevent consequences of alcohol.

“Students relate to students,” said Kelsey Harrington, the prevention coordinator for CADEC who serves as liaison between student staff and the university. “That’s more effective than having a staff member go to meetings on campus.”

ROAR training covers: basics of calling 911, such as finding a quiet place, staying calm and speaking clearly.

ROAR will meet again on March 30 in the Student Center building room 122.
