The city of Chico is hoping to gain a helping hand by hosting training for community members wishing to volunteer in Bidwell Park.

There are currently two types of volunteers through the city’s park services. The first are Park Watch volunteers, who act as ambassadors to the park and commit to 4 hours of service a month.

The subsequent type are noncommittal volunteers who help out city parks and greenways in other ways, like picking up trash or pulling out invasive plants.

Training for both positions will begin March 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 421 Main St.

Park Watch volunteers have an additional training session on April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Sycamore Field (located at the One-Mile Recreation Area in lower Bidwell Park).

Requirements for volunteering in the park include being at least 18 and passing a criminal background check.
