Led by starting senior pitcher Brooke Langeloh, the Chico State softball team beat Notre Dame de Namur University 2-1 in the Tournament of Champions on Friday, April 1, in Turlock.

The win improves the Wildcats’ record to 21-10 and 17-9 in conference play.

Langeloh once again put in a strong pitching performance. She pitched the entire game striking out 11, walking five and only gave up two hits. Through five innings Langeloh had a no-hit bid going until NDNU’s Cheyenne Koki singled to left field during the bottom of the fifth inning.

Langeloh’s pitching was not the only contribution she had in the game. She was also responsible for driving in the first run of the game for the Wildcats during the top of the second inning.

After giving up the first hit of the game to NDNU, Langeloh ran into some trouble during the bottom of the fifth inning as she also gave up their only run of the game when Tivoli Sisco drove in Koki who had singled earlier in the inning and stole second.

The game remained relatively quiet with both pitchers dominating batters and exchanging quick innings. The deadlock was broken during the top of the eighth inning when Wildcats’ junior Cyrena Taylor gave Chico State a crucial one-run leading.

Although NDNU had one last chance to tie the game they could not get another hit off Langeloh who made quick work of the side to end the game and give the Wildcats their first win of the night.

The Wildcats’ next series will be against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, April 8, at home.
