The Chico State track and field team put on a show in its one and only home meet of the season. Whether it was the throwers, jumpers or sprinters, every facet of this talented group was on display April 8-9 at the Twilight Invitational.

Men’s Results

Sophomore Nolan Nagle won the hammer throwing competition with a personal best of 54 meters. With that mark he earned an NCAA Championship provisional mark and is the eighth farthest hammer throw in school history.

The throwers continued to dominate as senior Wade Tsang finished first in the discus with a throw of 51.30 meters. Tsang improved on his personal best mark and has moved up to 10th on the national list.

First-year jumper Dylan Smith finished third in the pole vault with a leap of 15 feet. It is an 8-inch improvement on his personal best and is the fifth highest mark in the CCAA this season.

Chris Jaeger, a first-year jumper, won the high jump with a leap of 6-10.

Women’s Results

Brooke Whitburn had an amazing two-day stint as she took first place and two NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Friday she took home a provisional qualifying mark in the javelin and followed up that performance with a long jump of 19-7. That jump is the farthest by anyone in the CCAA this year and fifth best among Division II athletes nationwide.

Senior distance runner Lora James was another among a few athletes who took home multiple first place awards over the weekend. Friday she got first place and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.12. Then on Saturday she placed first again with another NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 1500-meter run with a personal best of 4:30.07. That time puts her at sixth in the Chico State record books.

Senior Bailey Moss was added to the Chico State record books as she placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.82. Moss now ranks ninth in Chico State history with that finish.
