In Game 1 of the weekend, Chico State against Cal State East Bay Pioneers doubleheader, Chico came out with the first victory on April 16.

They wasted no time in putting a score on the board. First-year Ari Marsh reached on an error and scored on senior Brynn Lesovsky’s double to right-center field. Two batters later, Lesovsky came home when junior Cyrena Taylor grounded out to second base giving the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead.

The next score didn’t come until senior Alli Cook created her own run after getting a walk. She stole second base, made it to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Pioneers’ throwing error. In the top of the fifth inning Chico State went up 5-0.

In the pitcher’s circle once again, senior Brooke Langeloh was completely in control, allowing a base-runner and carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning.

The final run of the game came in the top of the seventh with doubles from Marsh and Lesovsky. Langeloh held East Bay without incident in the bottom of the seventh to give the Wildcats a victory.

The softball team comes home for a four-game series against San Francisco State starting April 22.
