Chico State Opens Nation’s First Thin-Film Solar Charging Station

Chico State unveiled the nation’s first thin-film solar charging station, Tuesday afternoon. This student-led project took over a year of designing, planning and reviewing in return for academic credit.

The charging station is powered by by a 600-watt solar photovoltaic array of thin-film panels and a 12-volt, 780-amp battery bank, is located by the BMU and the Student Services Center. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Fridays.The charging station also has eight 120-volt outlets and four USB ports.
