CSU approves state budget request

The California State University Board of Trustees voted today to approve a budget request from state general funds.
The $237.6 million request was approved by the board and has been sent to the Gov. Jerry Brown’s office, according to a presentation from the Committee on Finance for the CSU system.
The CSU’s current expenditure plan requires the $237.6 million increase from the state, as well as money from university tuition fees.

The CSU’s budget allocations for the 2014-15 school year are as follows:

• 5% Enrollment Demand (from tuition revenue) $84.6 million
• 5% Enrollment Demand (from state) $79.2 million
• Augmentations for Student Success and Completion $50.0 million
• Financing maintenance and infrastructure needs $15.0 million
• Mandatory costs (health benefits, new space) $13.7 million
• Compensation increase (3 percent “pool”) $91.6 million
• Center for California Studies—cost increases $200,000

Total ongoing expenditure change is $334.3 million.

Brown will make a motion on the budget request in December.
