Student remembered as devoted academic

Brandon Madison, 22, died on Saturday.

Brandon Madison, a junior civil engineering student, died Saturday. He was 22.

Madison, who was born on Mar. 20, 1991, transferred to Chico State from Yuba Community College this semester, according to a university email.

“Having just transferred from Yuba College, Brandon hit the ground running at Chico State, aiming to earn degrees in both civil engineering and applied mathematics,” said Curt Haselton, chair of the of civil engineering department, in a statement in the release. “As part of his introductory engineering course, Brandon had already set clear longer-term goals of a earning master’s degree in civil engineering and then later starting his own engineering company in the San Francisco Bay area.

“His Computer Applications for Engineers instructor, Jason Barnum, also reflected that Brandon was a pleasure to have in class and grasped concepts with little effort.”

Madison is survived by his parents, Theresa and Kevin, and a sister, according to the release.

Services will be held tomorrow on Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Hope Point Nazarene Church, 600 N. George Washington Blvd., Yuba City.
