Momentum had their showcase in the BMU auditorium.

There are so many talented performers and artists at Chico State. Between actors and dancers, there are many different performances to see, however, the Momentum dance showcase on Saturday was one for the books. The dancers performed to a wide variety of music; from country hit “Dirt On My Boots” by Jon Pardi to “This is Gospel” by Panic! at the Disco.

Momentum is a student-run dance club that started in 2010. The group showcases all different styles of dance and includes all levels of dancers. One of the things that makes Momentum unique is that not only do they perform, but the students choreograph and direct their dances.

“Momentum’s goal is to keep dance alive on campus, and to offer a space to dance for everyone, regardless of dance background or technique level,” said Kayli Dutton, one of the Momentum dancers.

This next semester, there will be a new change of leadership on the team with a new president and vice president of the club. The newly selected women hope to continue to make dance an important part of the Chico State community and be inclusive for both beginners and advanced dancers.

“I️ heard about Momentum through talking to somebody in one of my classes last year and since I️ had just started dancing the year before, it seemed like a good club to be a part of since they do a good job involving dancers of all levels,” said Maddy Haber, another Momentum dancer.

Practices for the showcase can range from one to four hours per week, depending on how many dances one is participating in. Each dance is rehearsed for an hour every week.

“My favorite part about being in Momentum is that I get to dance only for the purpose of expressing myself every day among my closest friends,” Dutton said.

Haber added that the best part of the fall showcase was that the team got closer after the performances.

“We always pump each other up when trying to get over nerves. It’s also so fun to be on stage and all energized with everyone and it’s just great overall energy,” Haber said.

Momentum will have another showcase in the spring. Be sure not to miss it.
