The plaza of the Bell Memorial Union building was closed to allow construction Tuesday.

As this was the first day of construction of Chico’s new Wildcat Statue, the closure was made in front of the main entrance of the BMU facing Chestnut Street all day.

This project is said to be completed by April 8. The construction site does not affect entering the BMU.

Mary Wallmark, project coordinator said, “Today marks a great day in what has been a six-year project to put a symbol of our pride in this University in place.”

“The Wildcat Statue is coming and it belongs to everyone. I’m excited for our campus community to see it—they are going to be blown away!”
