The Wildcat men's basketball team beat Seattle Pacific University in the Carl's Jr. Mac Martin Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013.

The Chico State men’s basketball team edged out a victory over Cal State East Bay with a final score of 83-75.

The ‘Cats were led by senior Sean Park and junior Jordan Semple. Park scored his 1,000th career point, putting him 13th all-time in the Chico State record books.
Semple grabbed his 500th rebound making him 12th all-time in rebounds.

It was a first half filled with shooting struggles for both teams. Chico State shot 35.48% from the field and 41.67% from the free throw line. But despite the shooting struggles, the ‘Cats went into halftime with the lead, 33-30.

The second half was a different story as both teams found a rhythm and saw the ball go into the basket. East Bay would not let Chico State win without a fight. It took a dunk from Jordan Barton which changed the momentum and gave Chico State a 65-63 lead with five minutes left in the game.

The very next possession Semple would add a dunk of his own that made the crowd jump out of their seats screaming. Chico State would not look back and control the rest of the game with great defense and free throws.

“It feels really good to accomplish an achievement like 500 rebounds,” Semple said. “I wish I could have done it when we played better, but a win is a win.”

Chico State moves to 11-2 overall, 7-2 in conference play and will host Cal State Monterey Bay Jan. 18.
