Chico Pride Week ended with a brunch held at One Mile Recreation Area, hosted by The Stonewall Alliance of Chico on Sunday.

Chico Pride began on August 22 and lasted four days this year.

Event organizer Celeste Cramer said that this year, they expected 4,000 people to attend the brunch.

The food was donated and catered by Leon Bistro and coffee was donated by Six Degrees Coffee.

Attendees of the brunch were asked to donate five dollars.

“All the money that’s donated goes to Stonewall Alliance of Chico,” Cramer said.

Though Pride celebrations usually occur in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969, the Stonewall Alliance hosts their pride week in late August to make the event inclusive for students who may not have been in town during summer break.

“We didn’t want to leave the students out,” Cramer said.

Many waited as long as an hour in line for food. Food served at the Sunday brunch included eggs, bacon, hash browns, polenta with gravy, pancakes and fresh fruit, among other options.

The brunch also featured live acoustic music, with sets performed by multiple local artists, including Kailo Castilla of 5 Mile Myth, a local band formed by Chico State students.

A common motif was shared between the artists performing; Songs focused on themes and stories of the LGBTQ+ community as well as the artists’ own experiences of coming out or coming to terms with their identities.

Chico Pride also hosted a drag show at The Maltese on Park Ave to conclude pride week.

More information regarding the Stonewall Alliance of Chico, including counseling, advocacy services and LGBTQ+ competency training for businesses, can be found on their website.
