The Chico State baseball team cruised past Academy of the Arts Friday 8-2 on a warm day at Nettleton Stadium.

Starting pitcher Nick Baker set the tone by throwing six and two-thirds scoreless innings. Baker struck out six and walked only one. The win now puts Baker at a 2-1 for the season.

Baker was followed by Engels, Silva, and Hutchins in relief.

A five-run inning for the cats in the sixth gave the team an eight run cushion. It wasn’t until the 8th inning that Academy of the Arts pushed two runs home.

The game was carried on by continuous hits from the Wildcats. Blake Walker led the charge with a two-hit day. The ‘Cats strung together ten hits total including Eric Angerer’s 100th career hit.

The cats took advantage of their two-out opportunities by scoring three times in the situation.

The win improves the Wildcats to 7-3 on the season. The squad will take on the Academy of the Arts Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m. at Nettleton Stadium.
