Early afternoon on Feb. 21, at around 2:30 p.m. a large Canary Island pine tree fell on Kendall lawn in front of Kendall Hall due to extremely high winds.
University Police and Facilities Management and Services secured the surrounding area to keep students and faculty safe and out of the caution area.

Gayle Hutchinson, Chico State president, informed campus of the fallen tree in an email.
“The west side of Kendall Hall has been closed out of an abundance of caution and employees who work on that side of the building have been directed to telework for the remainder of the day,” Hutchinson wrote.
No injuries occurred and roughly two hours later Richard’s Tree Service Incorporated arrived to assess damages. According to students nearby, another tree fell near campus cutting a PG&E power line causing a temporary power outage downtown.
